Family demands answer

Westren, who had suffered a life-changing brain injury at the age of eight, was waiting to be picked up by his brother from a carpark when he was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by the armed group.

Police said a number of people then fled the scene in an SUV, leaving Westren with serious stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene but could not be saved.

His mother had attempted to secure additional NDIS support, but her pleas were reportedly ignored.

His stepfather Chris O’Brien — who is at a loss as to why the 25-year-old was targeted — told 7NEWS that “if he had that support in place he would have at least had a carer with him.”

“Hopefully we can get an answer and some closure.”
