Business Council of Australia Chief Executive Jennifer Westacott says Prime Minister Scott Morrison sent a “really important signal” on Monday night in terms of his government’s commitment to emissions reduction.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison laid out his government’s roadmap to net zero emissions by 2050 in a speech to the Business Council of Australia on Monday night.

Ms Westacott told Sky News, business is “very committed” to the target and the prime minister’s speech indicated the government is also ready to move towards strong emissions reduction.

She said the prime minister sent a signal to the business community of the government’s support which will “draw in investment,” but he also emphasised the need for “broader economic transformation”.

Mr Morrison declared the cafes, dinner parties and wine bars of inner cities will not determine net zero emissions policy.

He said Australia will achieve net zero in its own way relying on technology and the “animal spirits of our business community” rather than through taxes.

  1. Easy solution may look something like this..Tell the population the Real Truth about so called Global warming & pollution & this BS would be well on its way back to a balanced common sense world

  2. Scumo got the call from the UN/WEF that now the genocide is rolling out, time to start dismantling infrastructure.

  3. We sell worlds cleanest coal to China so they can use it for their energy to make and sell us inefficient Wind turbines that cost 200K each to get rid of them when old. Bloody Stupid.

  4. Scomo is a pawn of china. Dumb. Carbon GREENS the Earth. WATER is no1 GREATEST GREENHOUSE EMISSIONS. Look at greenhouse Volcanic Ash just now. I am pullng my Super out now as they invest in green. Thats inefficient.

  5. Looks like scomo won’t be re-elected next year. Political suicide it’s hard to tell the difference between liberals and labor.

  6. I'm very surprised with SkyNews showing a thumbnail of Morrison wearing a dunce's hat (in Australian flag colours) but good to see they are coming to their senses. Sensible journalism never hurt any news organisation.

  7. I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth. Back-burning and the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years.

  8. The signal that is not being sent out is that the effect of carbon-dioxide as greenhouse gas follows a logarithmic path, making the effect self-limiting. i.e. there is a line above which carbon-dioxide will have no effect. Wijngaarden & Happer, in their paper of June 2020 delving right down to molecular level, indicate that we are already either at that line or so close as to make no matter. The effect of China building coal-fired power stations by the hundred will be to increase food production.
