Australia must continue to protect the progress it has made in terms of health and the economy against the backdrop of “great global uncertainty,” according to Finance Minister Simon Birmingham.
“We will continue to be looking very carefully first and foremost at job levels across Australia and at the unemployment rate,” he told Sky News.
“That’s been incredibly encouraging to date.”
The finance minister said it was against a backdrop of global uncertainty, which included the “continued crisis” in parts of Europe and in India, and the challenges which faced international vaccine rollouts.
“Things are very good in Australia compared to the rest of the world in terms of health outcomes and economic outcomes,” he said.
“We know that there’s great uncertainty that still exists … we have to continue to protect and guard the great progress that we’ve made.”
