Why a Sunshine Coast rescue emu has feathers flying


Fluffy the emu has become somewhat of a celebrity on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Rescued as a baby, he was taken to Parkland Conservation Park where he has made a lot of friends.

But not everyone’s a fan of Fluffy.

But wildlife advocate Claire Smith is one of a legion of fans who think Fluffy should stay.

Some believe he’s aggressive and should be relocated to a suitable sanctuary.

But wildlife advocate Claire Smith is one of a legion of fans who think Fluffy should stay.

STATEMENT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT, TOURISM, SCIENCE AND INNOVATION:

We ask visitors to avoid riding horses in Parklands Conservation Park during emu breeding season between May and September.

We recommend people ride in other locations, such as Eumundi Conservation Park.Warnings about emus reacting to horses are clearly signposted at the entrances of the park.
