There were 33,232 births registered in WA in 2025, 88 per cent of which were received via the
Registry’s online Birth Registration Portal.
Twenty years ago, the names Ella and Jack topped WA’s baby names, while 50 years back, the
state’s most popular names were Michelle and Michael.

“2025 favourites Isla and Noah still have a long way to go to catch up with Margaret and John,
WA’s most popular names on record,” Bennett said.
“Margaret was the number one girls name for 22 consecutive years from 1930, when RBDM
published records begin,” he said.
“John was most popular boys name for 21 consecutive years from 1930 and held a place in the top
10 for 42 years in a row.“
Families have 60 days from the birth of a child to lodge registration with the Registry of Births,
Deaths and Marriages, either via a paper form or online.
