Detectives are searching for two boys believed to be responsible for a stabbing and assault in Melbourne that has left an elderly man and teenager seriously injured.
Police were first called to an incident at a shopping centre in Keysborough, in the city’s southeast, on Friday before 5pm after reports a 70-year-old man had been hurt.
Officers were told the boys tried to leave a chemist with stolen goods.
The elderly man attempted to stop the pair when he was assaulted.
He suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
About two hours later, police were called to a bus stop in Dingley Village, about 10-minutes from the first incident, to reports a teen had been stabbed.
It is understood the 16-year-old boy was waiting when he was approached by two boys, which investigators suspect were the same pair who assaulted the elderly man.
The boy was then knifed in an “unprovoked attack”, police say.
He was also assaulted as he tried to flee from the two boys.
The 16-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police and the Dog Squad searched the area but could not find the suspects.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
