‘We are sinking’: Tuvalu minister gives Cop26 speech standing in water to highlight sea level rise

Tuvalu’s foreign minister has given a speech to the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow standing knee-deep in seawater to show how his low-lying Pacific island nation is on the frontline of the climate crisis. The video of Simon Kofe standing in a suit and tie at a lectern set up in the sea delivering his speech draws attention to Tuvalu’s struggle against rising sea levels. ‘We will not stand idly by as the water rises around us. We are not just talking in Tuvalu, we are mobilising collective action at home, in our region, and on the international stage to secure our future,’  Kofe said

  1. Funny how the supposed leader of this country has not investigated and his islands have actually grow 3% between 1970 and 2014 according to the last report.
It seems .tv money is wasted.

  2. Hey man… it's ok go to land, relax go to THE BEACH, don't soak your clothes in water, just abandon the island in a few years, it doesn't have to be right away… You're not suffering, it's not like a volcano, where there are victims and people end up dead.

  3. 😂🤣😂Wow look at all those houses under water …🙄 climate change is a naturally occurring thing and has nothing to do with burning fossil fuel. They are discovering ancient cities buried under the sea every year , long before humans burned fossil fuels. Stop the insanity.

  4. この国が沈んでるのはこの国が地下を採掘したからです
    そもそも地球温暖化による海面上昇への影響はあまりありません
    実際この国の領土は衛生写真からでは広がってることが確認されてます

  5. Money talks, nobody cares.
Every single “climate protection” is just pathetic show.
If large countries would really care about ecology and pollution they would simply QUIT making ANY business with countries what does not care, like China (27% global pollution) or USA (14%), but money talks.

Green countries limiting emissions and, closing plants and ordering everything from freshly open factory in China, factory puffing black smoke…….money….we are living under same roof!!

  6. When I was in primary school, we did little scientific experiments. I was about 7 at the time. In one had a bowl of water, we put an object into it to see how it made the water rise. Forgive me for thinking the similarity now, but with all the structures and objects being immersed into the sea, would this not have the same effect? Or is the science wrong? 🤔 You can’t build platforms, manmade islands (China) massive concrete bases (wind turbines) without it having some impact on surrounding waters, surely? 🤔
While the overall effect maybe minuscule (or not) and blame sea levels entirely on climate change, we cannot ignore that different areas of the planet were once dry land and others ocean. The planet has changed through millennia, climate changes, that’s what the world does!

  7. I read the United Nations presentation on this 11 years ago. How much has changed in this 10 year period? From the pics, it actually looks to have decreased? Am I missing something?
