US, allies push Lebanon ceasefire, Netanyahu says war continues with full force | Hurricane Helene

▷ Israel’s military chief has warned troops to prepare for a possible ground invasion of southern Lebanon. Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi’s comments triggering a diplomatic frenzy to end the crisis. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hasn’t respondend to calls by the US and allies for a 21-day truce.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said ‘Hell is breaking loose’ in Lebanon, with US President Joe Biden stressing it’s important the war does not widen.

▷ Russian President Vladimir Putin has stepped up threats to use nuclear weapons if the West gives Ukraine more license to strike deep into his country’s territory.

▷ More than 40 million residents across Florida, Georgia and Alabama, are under storm warnings as Hurricane Helene approaches the US.
