‘Unbelievable’: The Guardian running a ‘protection racket’ for Labor

The “protection racket” The Guardian is running for Labor is “unbelievable” as some in the media still refuse to hold power to account, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

The Guardian Australia’s political editor Katharine Murphy wrote that Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will “declare trenchant opponents of climate action in Australian politics and the media are using the cost-of-living crisis and soaring energy prices as cover to resume lying about the energy transition”.

Mr Houghton said nowhere in the “partisan piece” does it reference Labor’s “reckless and completely unachievable promise” to cut power prices by $275 by 2025.

“There is no greater issue than cost of living and those far-left journalists need to stop running protection for a government which made some pretty bold promises at the election,” Mr Houghton said.

  1. If we are a coal exporter, why does what happens in Europe affect our domestic power bills? If it's due to transitioning to so called renewables, why is the infrastructure not in place before transition ? without fossil fuels we can not plow our fields to grow our food.We can not run our factories to manufacture wind mills or solar panels. Can not get produce to market, can not manufacture clothing. these fools are unbelievable.

  2. The simple fact is that Labour lied, as they always do. The figures during campaigning showed an exponential increase in power prices, much associated with both the War in Ukraine and our own stupidity in shutting down steam generators. At the time of the election, Russia had started their campaign to get the world's major oil producers to cut oil production and create such pressures on the west – I mean, the Morrison government had to slash the fuel tariffs just to get costs controllable – and Labour was still waffling on about lowering energy prices. A blatant lie. And we all knew they, with the Teals, were going to push strong on the eco-mentalist front, which is occurring even now. We all know Labour lies – what is confusing is how a majority of Australia decided to follow along with the lies!

  3. Australians need to wake up. What we are all about to find out that "climate change action" will cause more devastation than supposed "climate change". What we need in Australia is an opposition that calls out this fake "save the world" ideology. Instead we have everyone singing from the WEF Orwellian songbook.

  4. Turnbull started the guardian in Australia. Turnbull caused outrageous damage to both Australia and the conservative parties. Australia is still paying for it much to the incompetent and traitorous socialist labor and communist greens/teals. Renewables have never been successful and are outrageously expensive. Coal ,gas and nuclear are the solutions to Australia’s problems. BTW Bowen has always failed in every portfolio he has held (remember the illegal boat people in the horrific Rudd/Gillard years?) and he will cause immense damage in his current portfolio which he clearly does not understand.

  5. Individuals and companies may own the land but, MINERAL RESOURCES under ground ARE OWNED BY THE STATE. We just need to dig it up and start burning it. Quickly. Now. Before some Green claims it as aboriginal sacred ground.

  6. My perception is that the Guardian as well as the ABC are merely propaganda puppets for the Labor government and the Greens. Whenever one reads anything from the Guardian, it is stuff that comes straight out of the Labor party or Greens.
Let's hope that that those supporting the Guardian's stuff are very happy to pay higher energy prices and are pleased to follow exactly what the Labor government tells them to do or not to do.

  7. it is impossible to replace oil with "renewables". The experts have said this over and over. Also, they are only "cheaper" if you consider government subsidies.

The only people who believe you can are called "Greta Thunderburg"

  8. This was Labors 2007 broadband policy. It was supposed to be finished by 2013.

"" Labor commits to investing up to $4.7 billion into a new high speed national broadband network for 98 per cent of Australians. This will be fibre optic to the node. 12 megabits per second – and capable of upscaling. It will be laid out over 5 years in partnership with the private sector. In the 19th century, nation builders laid out the railway network. In the 21st century, nation builders are laying out high speed broadband networks.""

  9. Eventually all of this renewable energy equipment being installed will have to be replaced just the same as your battery in your car has to be replaced.
Depreciation is the hidden cost of renewable energy and that depreciation cost will be gigantic upon the backs of renewable energy consumers in the future.

  10. News Corp has always been a blatant mouth piece for Liberal Governments while simultaneously running a monopoly, especially in regional areas where Sky News via satellite is suspiciously free of charge. Wonder why??? Keep having a cry you bunch of shills.

  11. I have never seen SKY talk about its integrity and honesty. They cant. They know they are villains who are the bum boys for big business. SKY never claims to do journalism because they would get laughed Out of the ground the stadium. SKY is far right wing propaganda outlet.

  12. Anybody remember Rudds/Labors 2007 broadband policy? It was a FTTN-NBN costing taxpayers $4.7B and finished by 2013. It was a major election policy which helped them win the 2007 election. After winning the election they threw that policy into the bin and came up with a new policy in 2009

  13. Oh don't worry.
Labor will lower electricity costs by $275…..AFTER the costs has risen by 56% + $275.
They will then claim they honoured their election promise.
Don't be conned by labor's minister of smoke and mirrors.
