Q+A: Malcolm Turnbull attacks ‘shocking legacy’ of Murdoch and News Corp on climate crisis

In a heated debate about media bias on the ABC’s Q+A program, the former prime minister says Rupert Murdoch and his media company have ‘done enormous damage’ to western democracies, in particular on the subject of global warming. ‘The company you work for and its friends in politics, like Trump and others, have turned this issue of physics into an issue of values or identity,’ Malcolm Turnbull tells the Australian’s editor-at-large, Paul Kelly, adding: ‘Saying you believe or disbelieve in global warming is like saying you believe or disbelieve in gravity.’ He calls on Kelly and other New Corp employees to ‘speak up’ and call out their employer. Kelly argues that Turnbull is exaggerating the impact that Murdoch’s global media company has on the issue of climate change

  1. How dare Malcolm challenge Paul Kelly's motives and honesty? Because what he says is the truth. Without question, Rupert is the most influential Australian in our country's history, and his influence on world affairs has been almost entirely pernicious.

  2. Malcomn Turnbull equating the certitude of global warming 'science' to the certitude of the science of gravity, is exactly why he should never have lead a so called conservative party. There is nothing careful or conservative about that.

  3. Here two days after Murdoch media just completely did a 360 their view of climate change denial and ineffectiveness of green energy on the 12/10/21.
Headlines splash on every Microsoft paper supporting solar panels and articles on the effects of climate change. This change was all about MONEY- Now that 78% of Aussies are worried about climate change. Wow, just wow!!!!!!!

  4. I got a call from The Australian recently. They asked me why I no longer subscribe to their news. To say I was curt in my response is an understatement, at best. I ended up saying, "I don't understand why I need to explain my reasoning behind cancelling my subscription to The Australian. I just stopped subscribing. That's it. Why am I being called and asked specifically to explain myself?".

  5. Most of these people beside Mr.Turnbull probably have never stepped foot on a real coal fired power plant to see how disgusting it is. And yet they have their own genius comeback.

  6. When Malcolm Turnbull was the Prime Minister he often publically praised his late father by saying that when his wife left him and his father, he never heard his father once saying anything bad about his wife, in fact, his father only spoke highly of his wife… "Malcolm mother."
Unfortunately, Malcolm Turnbull takes after his nasty mother, instead of his gentleman late father.
