Pope Francis arrives in Timor-Leste from Papua New Guinea

Pope Francis has been welcomed to the remote jungle town of Vanimo.

Located on the northwest coast of Papua New Guinea near the border with Indonesia, it sits on the edge of a tropical rain forest. His visit part of an effort to prioritise churches on the peripheries.

He’s now touched down in Timor-Leste, where he will meet with the country’s president. The Pope’s visit, part of a broader 12-day tour of south east Asia and Oceania, is his longest overseas journey.
