Netanyahu rejects easing ceasefire conditions as UK suspends some arms exports | Pope in Indonesia

Israel’s Prime Minister says he will not bow to pressure to agree to a hostage deal, after mass protests and strikes over the deaths of six more hostages in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden says mediators are working towards a new set of terms for a ceasefire deal. But Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will not abandon its requirement to hold the Philadelphi Corridor – a strategic position on the Egypt-Gaza border.

It comes as the UK announced it will suspend some arms exports to Israel over fears the weapons will be used in what it called “international crimes”.

Russia’s President has denounced Ukraine’s counter-offensive as a failure saying his troops’ advance towards the key supply city of Pokrovsk is accelerating.

Pope Francis has arrived in Indonesia for the first leg of an ambitious Asia-Pacific tour.
