Lidia Thorpe told SBS News that calls for her to step down as a senator, following her admission she may not have sworn allegiance to the King, amount to “just another day in the colony”.
The Independent senator says black people in Australia are used to being shut down as she remains defiant in the face of criticism after disrupting the King’s parliamentary welcome ceremony, where she repeatedly shouted: “You are not our king. You are not our sovereign.”
Thorpe said in an interview with SBS News that her parliamentary colleagues talk about free speech while trying to silence her.
