Jamie Oliver ‘in trouble’ over Indigenous Australia portrayal in children’s book

Chef Jamie Oliver has received criticism over his new kids book which includes an Indigenous child.

Sky News host Caleb Bond slams Mr Oliver, claiming he “can’t even get the languages right”.

“The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Corporation has taken it up with Mr Oliver that he’s actually, through the course of writing this book, included stereotypes and tropes that are damaging to Indigenous people,” Mr Bond said.

“I think it rather proves the point doesn’t it that when you try to appease the left, it doesn’t usually work.”

  1. Could it be $imply a matter of innocently overlooked protection or in$urance for the time when it comes time to divide-up the pie. As a pie-maker-from-way-back the silly man should have known that the delicious $mell would waft-out his kitchen window, he should have known to invite-in ‘the proper authorities’ in con$ultation from the very start to organise their due $lice-of-pie? Perhaps it’s not too late to make amend$? The respective legal teams will no doubt $ort this out – but for his cheek and as a stern warning to others the numpty should have to pay double-$ettlement now though!

  2. Soo… Jamie Oliver's supposedly 'horrendous' fantasy novel

BILLY AND THE EPIC ESCAPE 'trivialises complex and painful histories'

with its depiction of an Aboriginal girl with mystical powers living in foster care

who is abducted from her home in central Australia.

Thing is, the plot sounds awful similar to the recent CATE BLANCHETT film THE NEW BOY

in which a nameless nine-year-old Aboriginal orphan boy is captured by police

and taken in at a remote monastery and then seemingly possesses mysterious

    supernatural abilities.

But don't remember a big hullaballoo being raised about that …

    What gives ?

  3. Man, forget authenticity readings, they should've done a "cringe reading" on that one lol. The magical Native and noble savage tropes are bad enough, but why would a British witch think that Aboriginal children would have more ties to a land that's halfway across the world? The one where, you know, the British children are technically the Indigenous ones?

  4. So Jamie didn't write that Billy started sealing cars at the age of 12 and smashing shop windows on the weekend, while over 33% of his tribe have been incarcerated for serious crimes. And that Billy is 17 times more likely to be incarcerated due to his adolescent crimes.
Oh, ok I see Jamie tried to make Billy a superhero instead.
    I understand that.

  5. Jamie often overlooks the importance of truly understanding the essence of the people he visits for inspiration.
    .
A recent example is his attempt to prepare Georgian Kachapuri after traveling to Georgia. Instead of creating the authentic Kachapuri bread, he opted to make a type of samosa pastry that bears no connection to this traditional dish.
    .
While this might seem acceptable to those who are uneducated or unwilling to engage, it contributes to a misleading portrayal of the culture and the people he represents.
To foster a more genuine experience and accurate representation, it is crucial to study and embrace the subject on a deeper level.

  6. Certainly a lot of Industry in Australia from Indigenous activist's looking at all aspects of our lives whereby it touches Indigenous lives, disrespectful it's said how Oliver may have wrote in presenting a fictional Indigenous character, Sadly I find in Indigenous popular music artists using use the worst Hate referencing Womn, the Vagina Hate word,I won't repeat it or use 1st letter, I believe the Hate word drives much Violence to Womn & Men in Indigenous lives significantly, as it does in White lives, but who cares it seems,th Artists singing Hate word are Barka,Walker Boy,Nooky,Tasman Keith & others,Lefty radio give the Evil Hate word much plays,Never any Gay Hate of course, ritely so,a Indigenous movie depicts well th Violence in Community by Indigenous folks saying th Evil I'm sure Hate word, yes the Left are so selective and in my opinion enemies of Australia, who they never thank for what Australia provides for so many

  7. I’m not gonna say it was a good idea, but since when does a kids book have to be accurate?
What a load of BS, they get upset if they’re ignored and they get upset if they’re included, and they call poms whiners.

  8. Nothing is mentioned about the white children that were taken from parents and sent to Australia as well as Australian children. We are meant to feel as if it our faults because they are not prepared to move on and stop blaming, this is still causing needless division.
