Jacinda Ardern resigns as prime minister of New Zealand in shock announcement

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern has announced her resignation in a shock announcement. At the Labour party’s annual caucus meeting , Ardern said she ‘no longer had enough in the tank’ to do the job. ‘It’s time,’ she said. ‘I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility. The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It’s that simple.’ She said her term as prime minister will conclude no later than 7 February.

  1. I’m American but I just loved Jacinda. She was a very respectable politician from my perspective and we’d love to have a politician that honest and straight forward in any part of our government.

  2. the single most irresponsible women in the history of new zealand politics. she wanted to be a revolutionary and spent billions and billions of our tax dollars to try and achieve it. the result – the worst performing country in the developed world and an absolute mountain of debt. the new government is basically repealing everything she put in place over 6 years. don't be fooled. oh, she was a great ambassador for NZ on TV. she looked the part, had a big smile and painted us as a great country to live in by association. it was all smoke and mirrors. in reality, it was economic vandalism of the highest order. staggering amounts of money down the drain – for nothing, honestly, NOTHING. anyone can be a revolutionary by throwing billions of dollars around, but you've got to be able to sustain it financially. she had no interest in the latter whatsoever. that's what happens when you elect a PM who's never had a job in her life.

  3. The comments on the CNN reporting on this is full of right-wingers happy with her resignation, the wording of some are less than respectful.

Disagree with her politics, sure. But at least, recognize real leadership and humanity, and not be blinded by partisanship and hate.
