Historic firsts from the 2024 US election

The 2024 presidential election brought a lot of firsts to the US Congress.

Sarah McBride, a Delaware state senator, made history as the first out transgender person elected to the US House of Representatives. The Democrat Andy Kim became the first Korean American senator while Angela Alsobrooks is the first Black woman in Maryland history to be elected a senator. Lisa Blunt also won in Delaware, becoming the state’s first woman and Black person to represent the state. Donald Trump’s presidential win has made him the first president to be a convicted felon.
