A Zoos Victoria program has adopted the trial use of Maremma dogs as ‘guardians’ of the endangered eastern barred bandicoots. The idea of the trial is that the dogs will protect the bandicoots from feral foxes and cats as they are reintroduced into the wild. The program’s coordinator, David Williams, admits it is ‘a little bit left of centre’.

On our property we do have sheep, and bandicoots i know there is at least two adults and two babies
Maremma sheep dogs, an Italian breed from Southern Tuscany, are fiercely territorial and develop a bond to the home or territory more than to their human owners. Unlike many other breeds of dog, they don't consider humans to be their lords and masters, but just… equals! I've had experience of Maremma dogs and they're not everyone's cup of tea. But they're conscientious and sensible dogs and I think they're the best breed that could have been used to protect bandicoots in Australia, precisely for the reasons that are explained here! Such "serious", duty-driven dogs would never do anything but their best to look after their territory and flock.

My heart was crushed in early February this year 2020 and my marriage and Love life was completely muddled and broken down.
