Three men have died and a pregnant woman has been rushed to hospital in two separate incidents during a deadly 24 hours in NSW waterways.
A large group of people from Sydney were spending the long weekend on the NSW Mid North Coast when something went terribly wrong about 6.45pm yesterday.
They were staying at a picturesque rental about six hours from Sydney in the remote town of Gleniffer, near Bellingen.
Locals said the Never Never River they were swimming in, near John Locke Place, was normally very calm but three men aged in their 30s got into trouble.
Two of them died at the scene and the other was taken to hospital in a stable condition before paramedics had to return for the pregnant woman, who was treated for shock.
Tragedy struck again this morning, about 50 kilometres further south in South West Rocks.
Emergency services called to Trial Bay beach about 11.10am found a man believed to be in his 80s, who was unresponsive after bystanders pulled him from the water.
Paramedics couldn’t revive him and he died at the scene.
The coroner will investigate both deaths.
