Taskforce Falcon investigates brazen daylight attack

The appeal came as one of Zakaria’s associates who survived the Granville shooting, Parramatta lawyer Sylvan Singh, was arrested and charged with a string of offences related to his alleged underworld links. Singh was shot in the arm and shoulder in the incident.

Singh has been charged with two counts of knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group, wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, and taking or detaining a person in company with intent to hold them for ransom.

Singh was refused police bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.

Detectives are also appealing to speak to a woman who was seen speaking to the three targeted men shortly before the shooting. She is described as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, with long dark hair and wearing a black singlet the day of the shooting. It is unclear why the woman was meeting with the men.

Detective Acting Superintendent Jason Smith, the acting commander of Taskforce Falcon, said the incident was “one of a string of really disturbing” public place shootings.

“We really can’t have this happening on the streets of NSW,” he said.

Smith said it was unclear how many shots were fired, but that a number had hit a nearby building and several cars.

“As you can understand, that’s just an extremely dangerous situation. To have shots being fired in a popular beachside location is just something that the people of NSW should not have to put up with,” he said.

Smith said the men targeted had not cooperated with police, triggering Wednesday’s public appeal.

“Taskforce Falcon detectives are working around the clock,” he said.

“We will ultimately bring these people to justice, but we need the assistance of the public to do that”.
