Sunshine Coast: Two boys charged for allegedly discharging fire extinguisher into car with mum and baby girl inside

Two teenagers have been charged with close to two dozen offences after a five-month-old baby was injured by a fire extinguisher in Queensland last weekend.

Mother Tiffani Teasdale was stopped at traffic lights on High Street in the Sunshine Coast suburb of Sippy Downs on Sunday about 7.50pm when an e-bike pulled up.

She alleged one of the two riders then sprayed a fire extinguisher into the back window of her car, where her baby Pixie was seated, and then fled the scene.

“The car just filled up with gas and white powder straight away. (Pixie) was completely covered in white powder and just looked like she was in shock,” Ms Teasdale said.

Pixie was taken to hospital where she spent the night.

Doctors had to use saline solution to clean the baby’s eyes.

“The doctors had to hold her down for me because it was the most horrible thing I’ve ever heard … no one should have to go through that,” Ms Teasdale said.

The mother a day after the incident said her five-month-old was “quite red in the face” and that her eyes were “swollen” but she was going to be “fine”.

Police released vision from a car park of two boys on a bike to track them down.

After going on the run for days, the teens were tracked down.

Queensland Police said it charged a 15-year-old boy with 13 offences, including three counts each of wilful damage and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with six offences, including two counts each of wilful damage and assault occasioning bodily harm.

It will also be alleged the fire extinguisher used in the attack had been stolen from a car park on Courage Street hours before it was used against the mother and baby.

Both the boys are locals from Buderim.

The teens will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
