Rudd responds to Trump criticism following awkward White House exchange

Kevin Rudd has been grilled by journalists in Canberra over US President Donald Trump’s repeated criticisms of him.

Australia’s Ambassador to the United States was in Parliament House with Trade Minister Don Farrell on Tuesday night to address Australian businesses and superannuation funds looking to invest in America.

7NEWS caught up with Rudd, asking him multiple times for his response to Trump’s barbs.

Ambassador Rudd said it was “good to be back in Canberra”.

“I think the prime minister had an excellent meeting with the president of the United States, and we are here to do a job,” Rudd said.

“We’re here to do a job. You know what I would say, I’m from America, I’m here to help, and my name is Kevin.”

During last week’s meeting between the Trump and Prime Minister Albanese at the White House, the US president was asked about Rudd’s prior criticisms of his leadership and responded by saying, “I don’t like you either and I probably never will”.

Then again on Friday, October 24, Trump was asked about Rudd and said, “You know when they say bad about me, I don’t forget.”

Rudd was appointed Ambassador to the United States in March 2023 for a four-year term.

There is fresh speculation his tenure could be cut short, but Albanese is sticking by Rudd for now and publicly supporting him.
