A $500,000 reward has been offered for information on the murder of a man who was found dead near a campsite on the NSW North Coast last year.
Duncan Campbell, 58, was reported missing to officers from the Coffs/Clarence Police District on February 9 last year after he was unable to be located and contacted.
He was last seen on February 4 that year on Albany Street in Coffs Harbour.
Campbell’s body was found at 3.30pm on February 12 in bushland on John Champion Way near his campsite at City Hill.
While his death was initially believed to be not suspicious, further examination revealed he had been murdered.
The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad has since taken over the investigation under Strike Force Belinda.
“Duncan Campbell was a father of five who, despite facing difficult circumstances, deserved a chance at life,” Homicide Squad commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.
Doherty said the appeal was about finding answers for Campbell’s loved ones and the Coffs Harbour community.
“This reward is a vital step in our ongoing investigation, and we appeal to the community to assist us in finding those responsible,” he said.
Campbell’s daughter Brittany said he was a loving father who didn’t deserve what happened to him.
“Living without Dad, and without knowing what happened to him, has been incredibly painful for my siblings and myself,” she said.
“We are thankful for the $500,000 reward and the ongoing efforts of the police to find those responsible for his murder.”
Duncan’s son-in-law Lee said: “We ask that anyone with information, no matter how small, please come forward and help bring our family peace.”
Anyone with information that leads to the arrest or conviction of the person or persons responsible for Campbell’s murder is eligible for the $500,000 reward.
