Pilot dies after plane crashes at White Cliffs airstrip in northwest New South Wales

A man has died after the plane he was piloting crashed in northwest New South Wales on Monday morning.  

Inquires by police indicate the pilot, whose body is yet to be formally identified, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. 

Emergency services responded to reports of an aircraft crash at an airstrip on White Cliffs Aerodrome Road in White Cliffs about 7.15am, a New South Wales Police statement said. 

White Cliffs is a small town located around 260km northeast of Broken Hill. 

Barrier Police District officers, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW State Emergency Service attended the crash.  

The pilot died at the airstrip and police have since set up a crime scene.  

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident with assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.  

Inquiries will continue and a report with for information of the Coroner will be prepared.
