Oprah Winfrey December Australian tour: Hugh Jackman shares his top travel tips for talk show host

Oprah Winfrey is less than two weeks away from landing on Aussie soil and as the talk show queen prepares for her long-awaited return, she turned to one of the country’s biggest stars for local tips and advice.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman, a longtime friend, shared his personal favourite things to do and see, including one must-do that took Winfrey by surprise.

Winfrey will be visiting Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane in December for a series of In Conversation events.

In the Instagram reel posted on Sunday, the talk show host revealed she will be staying for two weeks, which prompted Jackman to kick into tour-guide mode.

“So my first tip, fly into Sydney, go down to Bondi and do the walk from Bondi to Bronte,” he said.

Jackman explained the walk takes about 40 minutes and is lined with sculptures, referring to the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition that transforms the clifftops into an outdoor gallery.

He then offered Winfrey a piece of advice that appeared to surprise the TV star but is sure to resonate with most locals.

“If all of a sudden you have the urge, jump in the ocean,” Jackman said.

“It’s the best jetlag cure in the world.”

To which Winfrey replied: “Is it really?”

Jackman also recommended breakfast at Bill’s and revealed the restaurant serves the best ricotta pancakes.

“Best in the world,” Jackman insisted. “The best coffee.”

The actor also encouraged Winfrey to “just talk with everyone, because we’re the best in the world”.

The longtime friends then shared a hug before Winfrey agreed.

“You Aussies are the best,” she said.

This upcoming tour marks 10 years since Winfrey’s last visit to the country.

Hosted by former Sunrise host Melissa Doyle, the event is designed around genuine conversation, featuring honest chats about resilience and inspiring others.

Doyle revealed she had conducted several Zoom interviews with Winfrey ahead of their sit-down event at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.

Appearing on Sunrise on November 17, Doyle spoke highly of the talk show legend.

“It’s a little surreal, we’ve done a few Zoom chats,” Doyle said, speaking to Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington.

“I’m at home thinking, ‘Oh my God, I hope the dog doesn’t bark in the middle of this’.

“She’s fabulous. She’s lovely. She’s just what you would expect.

“We’ve talked about what she wants to bring to the audience, what we can learn from her and what wisdom she can share.”
