Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) said the helicopter crashed beside a runway and was leaking fuel.

Unable to stop the leak, FRV crews deployed a blanket of firefighting foam over the spilled fuel and the aircraft.

They also isolated the helicopter’s power sources to prevent the fuel from igniting.

Photos from the scene show the aircraft lying on its side in a grassy field, with one of the rotor blades bent and the tail section broken.

While there are no visible flames or smoke, the wreckage is surrounded by a white substance.

Police said WorkSafe Victoria and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will be notified of the incident.
