Michelle Williams gives touching two-word response about the late Heath Ledger in rare interview

Hollywood actress Michelle Williams has called former partner Heath Ledger “so special” during an interview, nearly 17 years since his tragic death from an accidental overdose.

Williams was previously in a relationship with Ledger for three years after meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004. They share daughter Matilda Ledger, 20.

Williams appeared on podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd.

“I don’t know if you’re comfortable talking about Heath but I feel obligated to say that I knew him a little bit when he was getting sober, and I don’t know that I’ve ever fallen in love with somebody so quickly,” Shepherd said.

“This is one of the most special boys I’ve ever met, and I can feel the weight of the world on him in a very special way that kind of broke my heart.”

Shepherd went on to say his death was “very very sad” and thought Ledger was “so special”.

Williams, who rarely speaks about Ledger, agreed, saying: “so special”.

“Thank God there’s Matilda,” she added.

She went on to praise Ledger for his “incredible sensitivity”.

Williams then spoke about her daughter, who was raised in America.

“I suppose maybe a good thing about being young is that you don’t have so much life experience that you can contextualize things, so you’re really just going with the flow,” she said.

“Kids are such great life checkers ,” she added.

Williams is notoriously private about Ledger.

However, the My Week With Marilyn star praised him for his radical acceptance of her.

“I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes,’” she told Vanity Fair in 2018.

Williams later married director Thomas Kail in 2020, with whom she shares three children.
