A manhunt is under way for a driver who hit a cyclist and left him with critical injuries in Melbourne’s north.
The victim was standing by his bike on Moreland Road at Coburg when he was hit by a car about 6.20pm yesterday.
The man, who has not been officially identified, was initially taken to hospital with life-threatening neck injuries but died overnight.
Security camera footage caught the moment the vehicle sped off.
Police say there will be “significant damage to their passenger side of their vehicle,” including the headlight and bonnet.
“What we do know is the driver of the SUV that has collided with this pedestrian will be well and truly aware that they have been involved in a collision,” Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy said.
Police believe the vehicle involved may be a light coloured (white or silver) European small to mid-sized SUV.
Police have also seized dashcam from inside a Suzuki that was parked on Moreland Road.
