From Labor leader to TikTok dancer: Bill Shorten shakes a tail feather in TikTok video for post-politics job

Former Labor leader Bill Shorten appears to be enjoying his post-political career after featuring in a TikTok dance trend for his new employer.

Now the University of Canberra’s vice chancellor, Shorten was approached to film a video for the uni’s TikTok account during its Open Day Fest last month.

The video, posted on Thursday, shows Shorten taking part in a trend which makes him complete a dare if he gets a certain colour from a bag of Pascall Clinkers lollies.

“If I pick out a pink Clinker then I will do a TikTok dance, no chance of that happening,” said Shorten.

Biting into the chocolate-covered lolly, Shorten squeals as his fate is revealed.

The video then cuts to the former Labor leader shaking a tail feather beside two university employees to Aretha Franklin’s cover of Say A Little Prayer.

Social media users were shocked to see Shorten take part in the trend given his serious demeanor during his decades in parliament.

“You’ve made Bill Shorten likeable … love it,” one user wrote.

“Legit good on you Bill, great sport,” a second wrote.

“Absolutely beautiful Bill,” a third added.

Others instead took aim at Shorten, with some calling for him to make changes to both university and national policies.

“What colour Clinker do you have to pick out for you to reverse the 10 per cent late penalty on assignments?” a user wrote.

“If you pick out a yellow one can you reverse the cuts to the NDIS please Bill?” another added, referencing reforms he made to the insurance scheme just months prior to quitting parliament.
