Ford Ranger ute found after man killed in horror head-on smash on Bruce Highway

A man has been killed in Queensland‘s south-east after a truck allegedly travelling in the wrong direction crashed head-on into a car on the Bruce Highway.

There are reports that the truck may have been one of a number of vehicles travelling in the wrong direction on the highway at around 10.30pm on Tuesday night.

Police believe they found one of those vehicles, a Ford Ranger, at a business on Magnesium Street in nearby Narangba about 5.30pm yesterday.

Early this morning, they said the car was believed to be following the Isuzu truck before the collision and that a Narangba man was assisting police with their enquiries.

The head-on smash was captured on camera by other concerned motorists travelling southbound on the highway at Burpengary.

Vision shows the white Isuzu truck travelling in the wrong direction in the northbound lane.

The vehicle disappears off camera and moments later, motorists hear the impact.

The truck smashed directly into an unsuspecting Honda Accord.

It is understood the Honda burst into flames on impact and the 26-year-old man behind the wheel died at the scene.

The truck driver – a 46-year-old man from Redcliffe – also suffered critical head, neck and pelvic injuries.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Police declared a crime scene and the highway was shut for several hours.

The highway re-opened to traffic early this morning.

Witness Sally Knight told 9News the situation was “just sad”.

“We were there for three-and-a-half hours, constantly questioning could someone have done more to stop this man losing his life?” Knight said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, with anyone who witnessed it or who has dashcam vision urged to come forward.
