Turkish aerospace facility targeted in deadly attack near Ankara, Turkish minister says

At least three people have been killed and five others injured after an attack at the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) near Ankara.

Mayor of Kahramankazan province, Selim Cirpanoglu, confirmed the casualties to Turkish TV channel Tele1.

Local media reported a loud explosion at TUSAS and showed footage of an exchange of gunfire.

“A terrorist attack was carried out against the TUSAS facilities in Kahramankazan, Ankara. Unfortunately, we have martyrs and injured people,” Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack.

Private NTV television reported a group of assailants arrived at an entry to the complex inside a taxi during a changing of the security personnel.

At least one of the assailants detonated a bomb, NTV said, while other attackers managed to enter the complex.

The outlet reported gunfire at the site was continuing and that some personnel at the complex may have been taken hostage.

Emergency services were dispatched to the site, state-owned Anadolu Agency reported.

Television images showed a damaged gate and a nearby clash in a parking lot.

NTV said gunfire at the site was continuing and that some personnel at the complex may have been taken hostage.

Helicopters were seen flying above the premises in Ankara’s Kahramankazan district, the station reported.

TUSAS is one of Turkey’s most important defence and aviation companies. It produces KAAN, the country’s first national combat aircraft, among other projects.
