Treasurethe Moment wins the VRC Oaks at Flemington on Oaks Day of Melbourne Cup Carnival

Treasurethe Moment has won the 2024 VRC Oaks, claiming a fourth win from her previous four starts.

Ridden by Damian Lane and trained by Matt Laurie, Treasurethe Moment backed up her win in last Saturday’s Group 2 Wakeful Stakes by winning the 2,500m Group 1.

The three-year-old is the 39th horse to complete the Wakeful-Oaks double.

Coming from a difficult barrier 12, Treasurethe Moment managed to get across into line back in the field one off the fence halfway through the race.

He hit the lead with about 250m to run and held off Powers of Opal, who finished second in the Wakeful.

Outsider Hurry Curry, who was scratched from the Wakeful on Saturday, managed to secure third.

Lane was full of praise for the fillie he guided to both victories during this Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“She’s a beauty. Just kept improving this preparation,” he told the Nine Network.

“Matt [Laurie] said to me before the last start, he said she’s a ripper.

“I was as confident as you could be going into a Group 1.”

Laurie praised the efforts of his team following the Oaks win, saying the celebrations will be “long and hard”.

“I can’t put it into words, it was painless to watch. It’s a dream,” he said.

The final race day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival will be held on Saturday: Stakes Day at Flemington.
