Smoke warning issued as Laverton North factory fire burns in Melbourne’s west

Authorities have warned the community to stay away from an industrial area in Melbourne’s west, as firefighters battle an out-of-control blaze at a recycling factory.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) were called to the O F Resource Recovery recycling facility on Plummer Road in Laverton North about 12pm on Tuesday.

Crews in breathing apparatus worked to fight the fire in the tin building, and also conducted aerial attacks on the blaze.

A smoke warning has been issued for the suburbs of Derrimut, Laverton North and Sunshine West.

FRV said the fire had been stoked by the cardboard present at the facility.

Staff at businesses across the street from O F Resource Recovery said they had been unable to leave the street since the fire took hold.
