The US Justice Department (DOJ) has charged an Iranian man over a plot to kill president-elect Donald Trump, allegedly sanctioned by the Islamic republic’s military.
In a statement released Friday, local time, the DOJ alleged Farhad Shakeri, 51, had informed law enforcement he was “tasked on October 7, 2024 with providing a plan to kill” Trump, and others.
The DOJ said two other people had also been charged in connection with their alleged involvement in a plot to kill an US citizen of Iranian origin in New York.
The DOJ alleged the plots were sanctioned by the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is part of the country’s military.
More to come.
