Police have charged a 26-year-old man with a string of offences following a siege in Melbourne’s outer west.
The man from Snake Valley near Ballarat in western Victoria is facing court on Friday evening charged with a string of offences in relation to an incident two days ago.
Detectives allege that on Wednesday, the man stole a vehicle in Snake Valley and was later in the suburb of Melton over an hour’s drive away.
Police monitored the vehicle to Leon Drive in Weir Views where they allege the man got out of the car and fired shots at police.
Officers allege the man then went into a house where there was a man and a toddler he didn’t know inside.
Police negotiated for the man and toddler to be released.
It’s alleged the man then fired at police again, and police returned fire and sent in a dog to help with the arrest.
The man was charged on Friday with more than 20 offences including assault and firearms offences against police.
The charges also include false imprisonment, dangerous driving, carjacking and making threats to kill.
