Forensic police are examining a rural area north-west of the Sunshine Coast following the discovery of human remains on the weekend.
Police have confirmed members of the public found “several bones” on a remote property at Booubyjan on Sunday.
“Forensic investigations have confirmed the bones are human,” a police spokeswoman said.
“The search and recovery of remains by forensic officers is ongoing and may continue for several days.”
Police say further forensic examinations will be done in an effort to identify the remains.
The town of Booubyjan has an estimated population of less than 100 people.
