Police have revealed a chilling detail from inside a crime scene in Sydney’s Northern Beaches after two bodies were found at a granny flat.
NSW Police and firefighters forced entry into the home on Cannons Parade in Forestville after emergency services were called to the address about 9.30pm on Wednesday night.
Two bodies, who police believe to be of a man aged in his 40s and a woman aged in her 50s, were found at the rear of the property.
Police believe the pair were in a domestic relationship.
A crime scene has been established and a major investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched.
Police inquiries are being assisted by the NSW Homicide Squad.
NSW Police Superintendent John Duncan confirmed the investigation was being treated as suspicious when he fronted media on Thursday.
The two deceased occupants are yet to be formally identified, and police are yet to confirm their cause of death, Superintendent Duncan said.
However, the superintendent was able to confirm a detail about the bodies discovered.
“They have got lacerations to them, but I can’t give any more details about what their cause of death or their level of injuries,” he said.
It is believed the two deceased people were known to police, but Superintendent Duncan ruled out any history of domestic violence in NSW.
The person who alerted police was a member of the public who knew the pair, and the person contacted emergency services after becoming concerned for their welfare and the welfare of their pets, the superintendent said.
Two dogs and a cat were located at the house and have since been secured and taken to a vet clinic, he said.
He said police are not currently asking for assistance to a locate a third person in relation to the incident, but said all lines of inquiry remain open.
NSW Police have been in contact with Queensland Police in relation to the investigation.
Police are urging anyone that may have witnessed suspicious behaviour on the Forestville street to contact Northern Beaches Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
