ATO lodges wind-up order for failing Aussie fast food business Mr Potato as founders tour around the country donating 50 per cent of profits to charity

The ATO has lodged an order to wind-up the management of a popular Aussie fast food chain, while its founders tour around Australia on an “epic road trip” donating to charities.

An application for the winding up of Mr Potato was launched by the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation on May 12, and court documents have revealed a liquidator consented to take on the company if it was successful.

The hearing on the matter has been adjourned to July 4.

The fast food business which is known for creating a “modern spin” on traditional baked potatoes, was founded by former model Jess Davis and her Adelaide 36ers basketball husband Tyson Hoffman in 2018.

The entrepreneurial couple has been touring around Australia on a food truck tour since March this year and is expected to end their “epic road” trip in Kalgoorlie, WA in August.

According to its website, Mr Potato has partnered with local charities and non-profits to donate 50 per cent of its profits from the food tour, but former financially-ruined franchisees have speculated the trip is a bid to recruit new franchises to the failing business.

The business currently operates six stores across Australia with plans to open more.
