Sunrise has a long and slightly chaotic history when it comes to April Fools’ Day.
On Wednesday, the show looked back at some of its most iconic pranks, many of which still live rent-free in viewers’ memories.

There was the infamous 2004 “Kochie toupee” where former host David Koch wore an iconically bad hairpiece and didn’t say a word about it.
The plan was to never acknowledge the questionable accoutrement on air… until the text line lit up and forced a confession.
“What day is it you dorks?” he laughed, after one viewer asked: “Did noodles throw up on your head?”


More recently, Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington had viewers’ jaws dropping in 2024 when he announced he was heading back to the Olympics and, last year, a fake evacuation alarm had the studio descending into utter chaos.
This year was relatively calm, with only the fake promise of a Forrest Gump sequel catching some viewers out, but the crew was still on edge, with Nat Barr spending most of the morning bracing for a jump scare every time someone mentioned the date.
