More than 50 people arrested during operation in Melbourne’s west, police say

More than 50 people have been arrested during a two-night operation in Melbourne’s western suburbs targeting car thieves and dangerous drivers.
Police said over two nights in late March, 51 people were arrested for several offences, including dangerous driving and driving with a suspended license.
Authorities also recovered two stolen cars during the operation.

The operation ran from March 25 and 26 last week and will continue running sporadically in the area.

During the operation, police arrested a 39-year-old man riding an e-bike who was allegedly wanted on four outstanding warrants.

A 47-year-old man from Wyndham Vale was also arrested after he was allegedly spotted driving a white Ford Falcon with false registration plates.

He was later charged with driving an unregistered car and without a license while breaching bail.

Werribee Police, Senior Sergeant Peter West said that while the community slept, authorities were “patrolling the Wyndham area from the ground and the sky”.

“You won’t know when Operation Shows is running, so we’d strongly suggest anyone thinking of stealing cars, evading police or driving dangerously in the area to think again.”

Operation Shows will continue to run in the area after starting in 2022.

Since then, more than 1200 people have been arrested, and more than 2000 offences have been committed across the Wyndham, Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay area.
