Teenager, 17, charged after allegedly stabbing rideshare driver with machete over Bluetooth disagreement

A 31-year-old rideshare driver was found sitting in a Toyota sedan with a laceration to his arm.

He told police a passenger – allegedly armed with a machete – assaulted him in the car before leaving in an unknown direction.

The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers then arrested a 17-year-old boy at a home on Valeria Street in Toongabbie about 2.45am.

He was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police allege the teenager stabbed the driver because he refused to let him connect his phone via the car’s Bluetooth.

The charged teenager was refused bail to appear before Children’s Court today.
