Driver airlifted to hospital after allegedly stolen car crashes into ditch


A man has been seriously injured after allegedly crashing a stolen car in South Australia.

The 31-year-old Mount Gambier man was airflifted to hospital after crashing into a ditch in Dutton, about an hour northeast of Adelaide, just before 9pm on Thursday.

About an hour earlier, a member of the public in Morgan spotted the Toyota Land Cruiser which they recognised as stolen from a social media post claiming it to be so, SA Police said.

The member of the public alerted police and PolAir was quickly overhead.

It tracked the vehicle as it allegedly sped south on the Thiele Hwy and Eudunda Rd, towards Truro, until it crashed.

Patrols arrived at the crash site a short time later.

The Mount Gambier man was found with serious injuries and hospitalised.

His two passengers, a 27-year-old woman from Munno Para and a 36-year-old man from Salisbury Park, both suffered minor injuries.

The driver was arrested is expected to be charged with illegal use, drive in a manner dangerous to the public and other offences.

Investigations are ongoing.
