Of course Putin knows the truth of the progress (or lack of it) in Ukraine). The Russian people may not be able to watch independent news channels from the West reporting the truth but you can bet that Putin and the gangsters that form his government can. It is either a deliberate intelligence ploy to paint Putin as isolated from reality and only fed the information he wants to hear from his subordinates or the UK intelligence community is incredibly (and worryingly!) naïve.
