The Amazon rainforest absorbs huge amount of CO2 and helps to cool the world, but recent studies have shown the rainforest is approaching a tipping point, with profound implications for the global climate and biodiversity.

The section in Brazil, which has suffered the most deforestation since 2006, is already producing more carbon than it absorbs, and there are worrying signs that the rest of the forest is not far behind. Josh Toussaint-Strauss investigates how the Amazon has reached this point, and how agriculture and Brazilian politics are playing a central role

The Guardian, guaranteed to make people feel like all their efforts to stop deforestation and other problems are all for nothing.
i want my view back
Documentary made by the World Leader of HYPOCRISY 😂
What's happened to European and American forest? Hypocrites.
This is a BIG LIE about Bolsonaro, now deforestation is increasing with Lula, but no one says anything.
I wish the Amazon Rainforest could start cooling the planet down if deforestation stops and if the Amazon Rainforest was saved from deforestation in the near future.
Thankfully, Lula's government is going to curb this devastation! Bolsonaro has been a disgrace to this country and the world.
We will pay big time for all of this! We already are and this is nothing compared to the suffering especially of children, that is about to come..
Be careful when sending your money to NGOs in the Amazon.
The LULA Government has returned, and they love to enjoy that money that you send. And they don't care about Amazon, the media just lie to you.
That's that the problem in the Amazon. Poverty .There are 23 milion people living in the Amazon that use the resources from the river whereabouts .ilegal deforestation is a big problem, may we borrow few helicopters and satelite acess over de area
we need help and work together . U.S. took a month to put down the fire in California imagine i t's a 20x bigger área. Please stop been the biggest carbon emissions country in the world, heat fings down here.
cheers
Be very careful with donations to Amazon because the money may not reach its destination. Lula's government has already been investigated and was part of the biggest corruption scheme in Brazil. Research the "Lava Jato" corruption scheme where Lula and his gang stole the country and the people.
When one corrupt president have the power to f up generations ahead.
The true: the resourses under amazon that they want to stole. We will die for our forest.
Prince Phillip warned of the removal of the world's largest rain forest and the danger it had on world climate over 50 years ago. He has been shown to be totally correct, and still the forest is being reduced. Who listens?
It seems now the "First World" found a scapegoat for their miseries… But against facts there are no arguments: Brazil is not even in the top 10 carbon polluters countries in the world. Plus, Brazil's percentual of green and renewable energy is much higher than in the USA and EU. Reforest your countries and shut down your factories first, before trying to teach the world on the importance of preserving forests.
Olha os hipócritas que destruíram seus recursos e suas florestas querendo meter o bedelho na soberania de outro país, nossa floresta está muito bem obrigada,
People forget that Capitalism is an infinite growth system, there is no breaks, if there is breaks there is no growth and that means bankruptcy followed by complete economical collapse, so how do you solve this massive contradiction by introducing green alternatives that are unprofitable and at the same time make things profitable? A no growth Capitalism is a complete system collapse regardless how you look at it.
Economy must be planned by computers according to resources and the needs of the people, not by market anarchy and profit margins.
Im really surprised you went on a tear against soy but you havent talked about the beef industry in Brazil.
Bolsonaro is killing the Amazon 😥
Estão loucos para roubar a floresta do Brasil Já que a Europa e estados unidos destruíram suas florestas.
Presidente Bolsonaro reeleito
why don't you post a video about the fires in European countries that are really destroying. Amazon belongs to Brazil and no other country should interfere. Brazilian sovereignty!
America is not a country, but a continent.
WE NEED THE FOREST
WITHOUT IT WE ARE GONE
This fear of Co2 and warming is irrational. History proves life flourishes during warming and Co2 is plant food. It's also logarithmic so it has a diminishing effect as a greenhouse gas. Get a grip.
This man’s voice is way too relaxing.
Carbon emissions r just one part of big problem of climate change. Stop viewing rainforests as carbon sinks
It's complicated and also not true
Cadê as florestas européias?
In short: Humans won't make it past the next 200 years. We will perish.
The Brazilian Amazon SHOULD be a world wildlife/forest sanctuary – this territory SHOULD be taken from Brazil, because it affects the whole world directly!
…not jets.
When it's all gone, they will be crying for help. They're on their own.
After they destroy the Amazon, don't count on the scientist to come and help you out. You're on your own.
When it's all used up. Nobody's going to go to the Amazon and help these people. I know they're going to come to the United States.
Because the because the soil is so poor they have to move to the next piece of land to farm. Basically, they have to clear and cut another piece of the Amazon to farm, after they've worn out the piece of land that they were using. The whole thing is tragic.
It's hard to believe that the Amazon was making more money left intact than what they're doing to it now.
There's as many people as sand on the shores. God's weeding out his seed from the devils. He's flushing it out.
The Earth is wearing out like a piece of fabric.
Scientist can't control the world population or the greed.
I was guilty of making the scientist into my higher power. The amount of money and resources put into saving the Amazon has been astronomical.
