Why keeping the same NBN plan for a year can cost you and the deals to fix it

Every day internet providers are launching new discounts on internet plans to entice new and returning customers.

These offers can last anywhere between one to 12 months depending on the provider, usually six months, and offer some serious savings.

This means if you’re not regularly comparing your internet costs to others on the market, you’re likely paying more than you should.

How do these discounts and promos work?

The vast majority of internet providers create competition for your loyalty by offering enticing discounts as much as $30 off per month for the first six months. This not only encourages customers to swap between providers but it almost guarantees you’ll remain a customer for at least the duration of the deal.

So what’s the catch?

Once the promo period ends, your plan price will revert to the full price. Unfortunately, most of us either get lazy or forget to shop around again, thus falling for the trap.

But if you remember to shop around as your deal comes to a close, you can simply jump ship to the next best deal for another promo period, thanks to the vast majority of internet plans being contract-free nowadays .

Switching between providers these days is much easier than you’d think. If there are no technical issues to sort out, like configuring a modem, it can usually be done without a phone call and you’ll experience very little downtime.

Since internet providers are constantly reviewing and switching up their plan deals, we keep tabs on which ones are offering the best price to make sure you’re getting the best internet deal. Below, we’ve broken down the best internet plan deals across a number of popular internet speed tiers.
