GP Deepak Puri pleads not guilty to sexual assault of female patient in Leeton, NSW



A New South Wales doctor has pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault of one of his patients.

In January 2023, a woman aged in her 20s reported to police that she was allegedly sexually assaulted during an appointment with GP Deepak Puri.

The incident allegedly occurred in May 2020, at Leeton in the state’s south. 

Monaro Police District officers began investigating and last month arrested 42-year-old Deepak Puri.

Dr Puri was taken to Leeton police station and charged with aggravated sex assault – victim under authority of offender, and granted conditional bail.

Today, Dr Puri appeared in Leeton Local Court and pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Pauline Wright.

His conditional bail will continue, and he will face Leeton Local court again on December 10.

As part of his bail conditions Dr Puri is not to able prescribe, consult, examine, treat or perform any procedures on any female person.
