Driver stabbed after crashing with car near Newcastle

A car crash has allegedly led to a violent stabbing with a driver injured and fleeing for safety.

Police said a 40-year-old man with multiple stab wounds walked into a police station in Cessnock, west of Newcastle, on Thursday morning.

He told officers he had been driving on Cessnock Rd in Neath when he crashed with a Subaru sedan about 4.40am.

A passenger in the sedan allegedly got out of the car after the crash, approached the man, and began stabbing him in the leg.

Paramedics treated him at the police station before he was taken to hospital.

A short time later, police said they were called to the same road as the earlier accident, where the same sedan had crashed with another car.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact crime stoppers.
