Often referred to as the greatest guitarist of all time, Jeff Beck has died aged 78, his representative has confirmed.

Beck broke through initially filling the large Eric Clapton-shaped void in the Yardbirds, expanding the range of music the group performed. He went onto form and lead The Jeff Beck Group, demonstrating his versatility with forays into jazz-fusion, funk and techno.

RIP Geoffrey Arnold Beck. A near neighbour of mine, but never saw him in his classic cars or at Sainsburys TW or Wadhurst Co-op. Apart from Jimi he was the best guitarist of my generation. He also championed female musicians – how about bassist Tal Wilkenfeld who is a star IMO.

I love Jeff Beck. Saw him in concert 13 times. Blessed to meet him a couple of times. There at every stage of my life.
Like a great rock n roll guitarist he passed away while still touring and recording records.
