Police have confirmed a woman who was found with critical head injuries after an alleged domestic violence-related assault has since died in hospital.
Emergency services rushed to a unit block in Redfern, inner Sydney, on Saturday afternoon after being alerted to an alleged assault.
Officers who arrived at the Morehead Street complex just after 4.30pm discovered 47-year-old Lauren Hopkins inside the 16th storey home with head injuries.
Paramedics treated Ms Hopkins at the scene, before she was taken to nearby Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where her condition was listed as critical.
Her son, 30-year-old Mitchell Hopkins, was arrested at the scene.
He was later charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent (DV) after being taken to Mascot Police Station.
The 30-year-old appeared via video link at Paramatta Local Court on Saturday, where he reportedly did not make an application for bail.
His next court appearance was set down for July 10, while a mental health assessment will also be carried out.
Police said in a statement on Tuesday that they were told the woman had died in hospital about 5.40pm on Monday.
Inquiries are continuing into the alleged assault, while a report will also be prepared for the coroner.
