Two school boys rushed to hospital in serious condition after being hit by stolen car outside Canberra school

Two boys have been seriously injured after they were struck by a stolen car outside a Canberra school.

The school children were hit by a green Holden Commodore station wagon on Canberra Avenue near St Edmund’s College on Friday morning, according to ACT Police.

Police say the vehicle struck a number of cars before hitting the students.

The vehicle then continued along Canberra Avenue before crashing outside St Christopher’s Cathedral in Manuka.

The boys were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The driver has been detained and is currently in custody.

Police believe the vehicle to have been stolen.

The surrounding roads remain closed as police investigate, with members of the public urged to avoid the area.

St Edmund’s College principal Tim Clearey said the students’ parents are with the boys while they receive treatment in hospital.

“The college has organised additional counsellors to support any students who may have been affected by witnessing the event or knowing the students involved,” Mr Cleary said, according to the Canberra Times.

“Please keep the boys and their families in your prayers.”
