Critical incident declared after man on motorcycle dies following police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west

A critical incident investigation has been launched by NSW Police after a man died following a pursuit.

Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a motorcycle travelling southbound on the Hume Highway at Liverpool about 2am on Friday.

After it did not stop, police initiated a pursuit.

Police made the decision to stop the pursuit on Flowerdale Road, due to “safety concerns”.

The motorcycle was found on Flowerdale Road shortly after, having crashed into a parked car.

The man who had been riding the vehicle was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Cumberland Police Area Command are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which has been declared “critical”.

The Crash Investigation Unit have attended the crime scene for examination.

“The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission,” NSW Police said in a statement.
